04Mar10

This week for class we were asked to read chapter 5 of, “A Survival Guide to Social Media and Web 2.0 Optimization,” which focused on podcasts, vidcasting and webcasting.

  • Podcasts are a series of audio and video files that are sent out over the internet. A podcast is just like a blog but with audio & video rather than text, and can be subscribed to like blogs.

The survival guide gave 7 steps to creating and  promoting your podcast:

  1. Record and prepare a podcast episode
  2. Upload the episode to the Internet
  3. Publish the episode to a blog, Website, or service.
  4. Create your podcast feed.
  5. Burn your podcast feed to FeedBurner
  6. Promote your podcast on your Website or blog, and in podcast directories.
  7. For each new podcast episode, repeat steps 1, 2, and 3.
  • Webcasts are online broadcasts and usually consists of a series of uploaded videos. They are used on webcasting sites or embedded into  websites or blogs.

With the increase in popularity with social media, it makes sense for companies to begin using Podcasts, and webcasting to promote their company. Individuals should also utilize them as well as a way to publish their thoughts, podcasting and weblogging is a more modern and simple way for readers to understand your message.
