Toyota Plays it Safe

22Jan10

PRNewswire reported in it’s article “Toyota Files Voluntary Safety Recall on Select Toyota Division Vehicles for Sticking Accelerator Pedal,” that Toyota announced it would recall approximately 2.3 million vehicles to correct sticking accelerator pedals.

The company conducted an investigation that indicated that in rare occasion certain vehicles would be in danger if this would occur. Toyota is working quickly to correct the problem in order to keep their consumers safe. Toyota is advising their car owners that if they experience a problem with their accelerator pedals to not pump the brakes, but to drive the vehicle to the nearest safe place, shut off the engine immediately and to contact a Toyota dealer for assistance.

In my opinion Toyota made a positive Public Relations move with publishing their efforts. In my opinion this is a great way of getting Toyota owners to get their cars checked before it’s too late. If Toyota did not encourage their car owners to get their cars check they could of been faced with a harsher reality than having to just recall their cars. I think they have handled the situation in the best way they could, offering advice on what to do if their consumers face the recall problem, and encouraging their costumers to get their cars check.
